It wasn’t easy but we did it.
It was planned that the Remembrance Day service was to be held in the museum at the location of the Honour Roll.
Unfortunately yesterday saw a power blackout caused by a passing storm that was to continue until 6pm today.
Our President made the wreath last night under torchlight and arrived early to set up for the service. The museum was unable to open due to the continuing blackout and the service was moved to the piazza.
The blackout caused further problems in that the ‘boom box’ for playing the Last Post was uncharged, so we had to make do with the tiny speakers of a mobile phone.
Rushing backwards and forwards caused Gail to miss placing the ‘Lest we Forget’ ribbon on the wreath until after the service was conducted, but was achieved once the power returned and the museum re-opened.
It was a small turnout this year with a number of volunteers, but only one visitor attending. She was emotionally touched however as she had family who had served in Vietnam.
Thank you to Peter Blackwood for leading the service. His speech from last year can be heard here.
